South Plainfield Students Accepted into Region Ensembles

Middle School Band and Chorus Students

The South Plainfield Middle School hosted the Central Jersey Music Educators’ Association Region II Intermediate Band and Orchestra Auditions on January 26, 2013. There were approximately 800 band and orchestra students from Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Somerset, and Union counties. The students had to learn a solo, memorize eight scales, and perform some sight reading. The students were competing for an opportunity to perform with the Region II Concert Band or Orchestra. The CJMEA recently also added a percussion ensemble to ensure that percussion students have an equitable opportunity to perform. The Region Band rehearses in various places throughout central New Jersey to perform in this concert.

The CJMEA Intermediate Chorus auditions were held on January 12, 2013 in Avenel Middle School and there was a plethora of chorus students who auditioned for that ensemble.

This year, four instrumental and eleven choral students from South Plainfield were selected for these ensembles. Scott O’Brien was accepted to the orchestra on trombone. Scott Riccardi was accepted to the percussion ensemble and Joshua Persad was accepted to the band on percussion. Al-Sadiq Rahemtulla was accepted to the concert band on euphonium. Furthermore, Nicholas Farinella, Stephanie Heim, Adanna Ibeku, Marteese Jones, Courtney Lee, Maggie Li, Thomas Licato, Helen Nguyen, Daniel Persaud, Anysa Silva, and Makayla Sosa were accepted into the region chorus.

The concert for the band and orchestra was on Sunday, March 10 and the percussion ensemble and chorus concert was on Sunday, March 17. Both concerts were at Monroe Township High School. Mr. Veiss, Miss Maddolin, and the middle school community is very proud of the accomplishments of all the students who auditioned!
