South Plainfield Students Accepted into Region Band

The South Plainfield Middle School hosted the Central Jersey Music Educators’ Association Region II Intermediate Band and Orchestra Auditions on January 25, 2014.  There were approximately 800 band and orchestra students from Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Somerset, and Union counties.  The students had to learn a solo, memorize eight scales, and perform some sight reading.  The students were competing for an opportunity to perform with the Region II Concert Band or Orchestra.  The CJMEA recently also added a percussion ensemble to ensure that percussion students have an equitable opportunity to perform.  The Region Band rehearses in various places throughout central New Jersey to perform in this concert.

This year, six South Plainfield students were selected for these ensembles.  Sarah Abdelsalam was accepted into the Symphonic Band on bass clarinet, Isabella Ardito was accepted into the Symphonic Band on euphonium, Rhea Rajpal was accepted into the Percussion Ensemble on mallets, Josh Persad was accepted into the Symphonic Band on percussion and Robert Lenau was accepted into the Percussion Ensemble.  Furthermore, Amit Patel was accepted into the String Orchestra on bass.  The concert for the band and percussion ensemble will be on Sunday, March 16 at West Windsor-Plainsboro South High School and the Orchestra concert will be Sunday, March 9 at Ridge High School in Basking Ridge.  Mr. Veiss, Mrs. Livecchi, and the middle school community is very proud of the accomplishments of all the students who auditioned!
