On Saturday, March 17th, three teams of 7th and 8th graders from the South Plainfield Middle School participated for in the regional annual Odyssey of the Mind competition at Sayreville War Memorial High School. This is an academic competition where teams are given various long-term and short-term problems.
The students put in long hours to work on their long-term problems through a play. They were given a hypothetical situation and had to solve it with scientific and mathematical information. The spontaneous portion involved being asked questions within a short period of time. The 7th grade teams were coached by Ms. Jillian Totora, 7th grade Science teacher. The 8th grade team was coached by Ms. Barbara Pinelli, 8th grade History teacher. Both MS principal, Mr. Kevin Hajduk and Assistant Principal, Ms. Tamekia Grier-DuPiche were there to support and help the students, along with our great parents.
