Governor School SUMMER 2025 - APPLICATION INFORMATION

The Governor’s School of New Jersey was established in 1983. It is a tuition-free, residential summer program for high-achieving juniors (who will be rising seniors this summer), who have an interest in STEM subjects - science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Currently, there are two programs: the Governor’s School in the Sciences at Drew University and the Governor’s School of Engineering & Technology at Rutgers University.

Are you an academically-talented junior interested in being nominated for one of these two STEM programs this summer? Here's what to do:

1.) Read about the programs here:

Sciences at DREW UNIVERSITY: July 6 - July 26, 2025

Engineering & Technology at RUTGERS UNIVERSITY: July 5 - July 25, 2025

2.) Submit the following 3 documents to Ms. Pacillo in Counseling NO LATER THAN Wednesday, 12/18/2024 by end of school:

  • FORM: Our Governor's School Interest Form - Click Here! - Please print the form and fill it out, or pick up a printed form in the Counseling Office. Parent signature is required on the form.

  • RESUME: A list of your extracurricular activities, in order of importance to you (include any leadership roles you hold).

  • ESSAY: A one-page essay explaining why you want to attend the Governor’s School that you selected.

    PLEASE NOTE:

  • If interested in both programs, you may indicate a 1st and 2nd choice on the form.

  • You must be sure that you are willing and able to attend the entire program before applying. Note that the dates are different for each program.

NEXT STEPS - THE SPHS SELECTION PROCESS

After you hand in the above documents, SPHS makes its nomination decisions.

We can nominate only 1 student for each program.  Achievement in rigorous classes, especially science/math, and junior PSAT scores will be reviewed by a committee.  If you are selected, you will be notified by Monday, 12/23/2024.  At that time, you may begin the application for Drew/Rutgers and request recommendations from teachers. Do not ask for recommendations until you are chosen as a nominee!

Once selected, nominees must return completed applications to Ms. Pacillo in Counseling no later than Tuesday, 1/7/2025 at 2:30pm.

Students selected as Governor’s School Scholars will be notified of acceptance status in early April 2025.

Good luck!!
