SPHS Building Based P.E.A.C.E. Committee

The South Plainfield High School P.E.A.C.E. (Positively Empowering and Advocating for Change and Equity) committe is an internal organization within the High School that also serves as a larger portion of our District wide P.E.A.C.E. Committee.

Our Mission Statement states that:

"South Plainfield PEACE is dedicated to the advocacy of equity, inclusion, and representation in order to foster safe spaces for communication and cultivate a culture that empowers all to embrace and celebrate diversity both in education and across the community."

The current P.E.A.C.E. Committe emboidies the same mission and goals of our former Culture and Climate Committe as well as our One Love Club at SPHS.

Functions of the SPHS Chapter of the P.E.A.C.E. Committee

  • Affords students and staff an opportunity to collaborate to provide a direct line to the administration to express ideas for programming to benefit the student body, school culture, and community.

  • Works to plan and ensure the diversity of SPHS is effectively and appropriately represented and celebrated thorugh a variety of means (bulletin boards, PSA's).

  • Cultivates student leadership to serve as ambassadors for the student body within the High School but also to the other schools and school community at large.

  • Takes part in district wide meetings with administration and staff on equity initiatives and to work to solve problems as they arise.

Meeting Information

  • The SPHS P.E.A.C.E. committee meets on the third Thursday of every month in the Calming Room.

  • Additional meetings may be called at the discretion of the advisors.

  • All students and staff are welcome to attend.

SPHS P.E.A.C.E. Committee Accomplishments/Actions

  • Yearly participation in Day of Dialogue

  • Presentations to the staff on Diveristy, Inclusion, and Equity

  • Coordinating building based Public Service Announcements on key issues

  • Informational bulletin boards throughout the building on highlighting monthly celebrations and events

  • Discussion on curricular adjustments at the district level

  • Crafting larger conversations on equity at the district level

  • Crafting student surveys to gain information and data for assembly needs
