Dear Parents/ Guardians of Incoming 3rd and 4th grade students at Franklin School:
Thank you for your interest in the South Plainfield Music Department. Your child’s participation in music will open up many doors of opportunity and will culturally and intellectually enrich their entire lives. Your child can participate in chorus and orchestra in 3rd grade and Band or Orchestra and/or Chorus in 4th grade.
Students are scheduled for a band or orchestra lesson and an ensemble rehearsal each week during the school day. The lessons are arranged on a rotating basis and are free of charge. Chorus schedule will be sent out in the fall. The student must provide his or her own instrument and lesson book. A limited number of school-owned instruments are available free of charge. However, we reserve these instruments for those who absolutely cannot afford to rent or instruments not available for rental.
Instruments are available to rent from Music and Arts. They provide quality instruments, and quality repair services directly to the school. You do not need to rent from Music and Arts as there are many reputable instrument stores and rental companies. However, we highly recommend the service. A note of caution; renters/ buyers beware of inferior instruments sold at bargain prices. For your child’s music education to be successful, please contact your school music teacher prior to purchase, to ensure that you are purchasing a quality instrument.
