SPMS and the coLAB Arts wrapped up their summer institute last week. This year, the student theme was "At One With Our Environment." The students created mixed media art, created a dance, and a mural in the middle school's courtyard.
SPMS Day of Service was amazing with a car wash, courtyard cleanup, flower planting and a very exciting volleyball tournament. Thanks to all the students and staff.

Congratulations to the Middle School Music Department for an awesome job at the Showcase Music Festival at Dorney Park. All groups were first place and the Orchestra and Chorus received Excellent ratings and the concert band and jazz band received Superior Ratings.
Students in Ms. Bednar’s 8th grade art class created scientific illustrations inspired by the naturalist painter John James Audubon. Each day they learned about a new American bird species.
The South Plainfield Middle School Band and Chorus performed before at the Somerset Patriots Game on May 4. The Chorus sang “God Bless America” and the Band performed the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
On May 9, 2023, the South Plainfield Middle School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society held its annual induction ceremony. The current officers and inductees took part in the ceremony.
The children of the SPMS staff had a great time during Take Your Child To Work Day. Thank you to our teachers who welcomed them all with some amazing activities.
Last week, the South Plainfield Middle School held the American Heart Challenge! The students were excited to learn about physical and emotional well-being while having FUN and CHANGING LIVES.

The South Plainfield School District hosted their second annual Band Festival Day on March 29 at the South Plainfield Middle School. 316 band students participated. Every band student from the High School, the Middle School, the Grant School and all four elementary schools participated. Each school played one piece by themselves and then they played it again with the older schools joining in.
On Saturday, March 25, seven South Plainfield Middle School Students performed at the CJMEA Middle School Honors Band Day. The students worked for weeks to prepare for the day. There were students from 42 schools who met each other for the first time on Saturday. They rehearsed for four hours and put the concert on the same day. The students involved were: Neill Wands, Jason Miller, Dylan Nicolay, Ellah Sanzalone, Molly Van Wyk, Josie Joseph, and Chris Czuba.
Peer Leaders at the South Plainfield Middle School ran a food drive to help replenish Middlesex County's Food Bank. Students in the club coordinated this and encouraged schoolwide participation which resulted 15 bins of nonperishable food items and other essential supplies being donated.
At the Middle School yesterday, Ms. Kousoulis’s classes celebrated Pi Day! They explored how to get pi by using string and a ruler to measure the circumference and diameter of various circles. They learned that no matter what size circle you measure, the ratio of the circumference and diameter will always equal pi!
Congratulations to the SPMS Students who participated in the CJMEA Region II Percussion Ensemble and Chorus Concert on March 12th. Wren Rasmussen and Jason Miller performed with the Region II Mixed choir, and Anvi Dobhal performed with the Treble choir. Blake Greco performed with the percussion ensemble.
Congratulations to middle school band student Molly Van Wyk, who performed with the CJMEA Intermediate wind ensemble on Sunday, March 5 at Bridgewater Middle School.
Three SPMS students, Taetum Fitz, Skylar LaGuerre, and Patience McRae, initiated our honoring of Black History Month by choosing a quote by a famous person for each day of February and sharing them in our morning announcements.
Mrs. McLaughlin’s 7th period artists are busy working on a special coiling project. They are practicing their coiling skills and working on creating sculptures from just rope and yarn.
